About the Department
The aim of the programme is to act as a focal point for local, regional and nation-wide urban and regional planning and the processes that shape space, and to carry out research, education, policy development and the development of innovative strategies towards implementation. Conducted in English, the programme is designed to safeguard the ethical production, sharing, distribution and implementation of information, and to provide a participatory education environment that encourages the open discussion of ideas and promotes research.
The programme aims to help students develop areas of specialization, increase their capacity for multi-dimensional thinking, relate theory with practice, and strengthen their analytical skills. Students are expected to gain in-depth knowledge on various topics related to urban areas, use this knowledge in relation to knowledge from other disciplines, discuss and criticize different ways of thinking and perception, and develop original ideas for contemporary political and cultural issues.
The programme is organized in strong relation to disciplines such as Public Administration, Sociology, Economics, History, Archaeology and Geology, and its content and scope are developed with regard to this interdisciplinary structure. In this context, there are sub-specialization areas corresponding to different specializations: 'Urban Design', 'Urban Politics', 'Urban Conservation' and 'Regional Development'.
Throughout their undergraduate studies and research, students are expected to specialize among these sub-areas, gain in-depth knowledge and make original contributions. Adapting to changing approaches to education globally and nationally, the programme aims to train well-equipped city planners who integrate theory and practice.
