About the Department
The Department of Islamic History and Arts is a discipline that examines the historical development of Islamic civilization and the art works produced by this civilization through academic methods. Situated within the Faculty of Theology, this program addresses the political, social, and cultural history of the Islamic world alongside the developmental processes of art forms such as calligraphy, illumination, miniature, ebru (marbling), and architecture.
Students have the opportunity to study the historical processes spanning from the birth of Islamic civilization to the present day while gaining familiarity with the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of this civilization. The program examines the art traditions of Seljuk, Ottoman, and other Islamic states from a comparative perspective. Historical research and art analysis are conducted simultaneously, providing an interdisciplinary perspective.
