About the Department

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER EDUCATION AND INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY

1-General Information

The Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT) was established in 1999 with the opening of Mersin University Faculty of Education, but started its educational activities with 22 undergraduate students in the 2014-2015 academic year. Since the 2015-2016 academic year, the department of CEIT continues to admit students with compulsory English preparatory education. Since that date, the students who have enrolled in the department of CEIT take at least 30% of the courses in English. In the 2015-2016 academic year, the graduate program was approved by The Council of Higher Education. Since the second half of the 2016-2017 academic year, students have been welcomed to the graduate education. In addition, there are Mevlana, Farabi, Erasmus coordinatorships in the department of CEIT. Erasmus + coordination office provides active mobility within the scope of student and academic staff exchange.

The department of CEIT carries out its educational activities with 70 students in the undergraduate program, in the building of Faculty of Education at Mersin University Çiftlikköy Campus. Undergraduate students who successfully complete the program are given a bachelor's degree in Computer Education. The department carries out an education program aiming to train computer teachers, instructional technology design experts, lecturers and academicians in the field of Computer Education and Instructional Technology. In the curriculum, in addition to field courses such as the fundamentals of information technologies, multi-media learning, computational thinking, computer hardware, programming, database management systems, distance education; there are vocational courses such as introduction to teaching profession, special teaching methods, educational psychology. In addition to compulsory courses in our education program, different elective courses that students can choose according to their own preferences are available in our undergraduate and graduate programs. 3-Opportunities for Students

Two computer labs consisting of a total of 60 All-in-One computers, one technology class consisting of 20 laptops, one maker lab, five arduino sets, three robotic-sets, one 3D printer, 21 tablet computers, one server room and one e-studio, and two different seminar rooms, one smart classroom including one interactive board, one video conferencing system and 21 all-in-one computers are among the department's facilities and potentials.

4- Graduate Education Opportunities

Within this department, Computer Education and Instructional Technologies Master's Program with thesis approved by The Council of Higher Education in 2016 admits students. It is planned to apply for a doctorate program soon.

The mission of the CEIT is to educate candidates of teachers and instructional designers who adhere to Atatürk's principles and reforms, do not compromise secularism and Republican principles, are hardworking and beneficial to the society, can use their knowledge and skill for the benefit of society, respect fundamental human rights, are entrepreneur and can also develop new technologies.

Training graduates who can perform effective teaching in computer education with both intra-departmental and interdisciplinary researches, create effective technology-supported instructional designs, can find fast and effective solutions for the problems encountered in the field of study, and have academic research skills is among the vision criteria of the department of the CEIT at Mersin University.
