About the Department
The English Language Teaching programme started its activities with 30 students in the 2000-2001 academic year, together with the opening of the Faculty of Education. The programme had its first graduates in the 2003-2004 academic year. In addition to its undergraduate education, the department continued its mission of training teachers through the English Language Teaching Certificate Programmes launched in the 2005-2006 academic year. Besides the daytime programme, the department also ran an evening education programme between 2002-2003 and 2014-2015.
The programme is carried out by an experienced academic staff. Accepting 50 students each year, the department continues its education in the Faculty of Education building on the Çiftlikköy Campus. Graduates who complete the programme are awarded a bachelor's degree in the field of English Language Teaching.
The Department of Foreign Language Education implements an education plan to train teachers, lecturers and academicians in the field of English language education. The English Language Teaching programme, which was renewed in the 2018-2019 academic year, offers compulsory courses on professional teaching knowledge, foreign language teaching knowledge and general knowledge, as well as elective courses that allow students to choose according to their preferences.
The programme aims to train graduates who can identify problems in foreign language teaching and produce solutions to them — individually or in groups through interdisciplinary work — use technology effectively, and have academic research skills.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the programme can work as English teachers in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, and in language courses and private education institutions. They can also serve as instructors/lecturers at universities and pursue an academic career path through graduate education.
