About the Department
Environmental Engineering Department started to accept students in the 1993-1994 academic year. There are 16 staff working in the department, including faculty members with different areas of expertise, (https://www.mersin.edu.tr/akademik/muhendislik-fakultesi/bolumler/cevre-muhendisligi-bolumu/programlar/cevre-muhendisligi/ogretim-elemanlari) technicians and secretaries. Our students are given basic theoretical and practical courses to guide their Environmental Engineering studies. In addition, senior students can take Senior Project I and II courses and Professional Foreign Language courses to prepare their undergraduate thesis.
Undergraduate theoretical courses are carried out in the Faculty of Engineering classrooms, laboratory courses in the student laboratory, 2 general research and 16 special research laboratories. Internship practices are carried out in our laboratories and the private sector under the leadership of faculty members.
Our department offers double major and minor programs where our students can gain a competitive advantage in the business world, learn two different business disciplines, and have the opportunity to work interdisciplinary. We also have an Erasmus program where they can gain experience in living and studying abroad.
Our graduates who complete the 4-year undergraduate education receive the title of Environmental Engineer. Our graduates can work in the Ministries of Environment and Urbanization, Ministries of Health, Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministries of Public Works and Settlement, Bank of Provinces, DSI, Municipalities, Universities and the Private Sector.
Our Department of Environmental Engineering offers master's and doctoral programs for engineers with bachelor's degrees in engineering. Students who graduate from our master's program graduate with the title of Master Engineer and students who graduate from our PhD program graduate with the title of Doctorate.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Environmental Engineering program can find employment in public institutions, private sector companies, research centers, and non-governmental organizations. Academic career paths through graduate education are also available.
