About the Department

Because Turkey is surrounded with Black sea, Agean and Mediterranean seas, the importance of fisheries as a developing and interdciplinary scientific area is being elevated by the day. Because aquaculture production and fishing activities were carried out using techniques far from the approved scientific ground over the years, this on going situation has affected the sustainability of natural resources in a negative way and necessitated the academic education in the field of fisheries. There is no separate graduate teaching program in the department but under the academic structuring of Faculty of fisheries, activities regarding to scientific research, consulting services and upbringing of academic personel are being conducted. In the subjects of the department, theoretical and practical information regarding to morphological, physiological, anatomical and ecological specifications of the species which are widely captured and farmed, had economic value and considered as structural components of different aquatic ecosystems are given to the students.
