About the Department
The Department of Basic Medical Sciences brings together the main scientific disciplines that form the scientific foundation of the preclinical period within the Faculty of Medicine. The department encompasses disciplines including anatomy, physiology, medical biochemistry, histology and embryology, medical microbiology, medical pathology, medical pharmacology, and medical biology and genetics.
The educational program aims to systematically teach the normal structure and functions of the human body, the molecular and cellular bases of disease processes, and the scientific foundations of therapeutic approaches. Basic sciences education, concentrated in the first three years of the six-year medical education, is delivered in an integrated manner with clinical sciences through an integrated curriculum approach.
In addition to theoretical courses, students gain practical experience through laboratory applications, cadaver dissection, microscopy studies, and research projects.
