As we live in the information age, the sharing and processing of information cause very rapid development and change in the computer sector. The Computer Programming Programme aims to train staff in the fields that will be needed within this development: computer use, software writing, maintenance, repair, and the installation and management of computer networks.
The Computer Programming Programme is one of the first vocational school programmes to begin admitting students, starting in 2003. Since 2011, within the scope of the Project for Developing Human Resources through Vocational Education (İKMEP) of the Council of Higher Education and the Ministry of National Education, the programme has continued to admit students under its new name, 'Computer Programming (İKMEP)'. In other words, the programme has not been closed; only its name has been updated.
The programme is conducted as distance education within the Department of Computer Technologies of the Mersin Vocational School; this model offers students a flexible learning opportunity independent of time and place. Students who successfully complete the programme are awarded an associate degree in Computer Programming and the title of 'Computer Technician'. Students are admitted through the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) score type within the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) conducted by ÖSYM.
