About the Department
The Furniture and Decoration Program covers wood and wood-derived materials, furniture hardware and fittings, furniture design, production methods and technologies, periodic maintenance of machines, occupational health and safety, and producing according to a given program. Students are trained as technicians who have sufficient knowledge in this field, are equipped with a high level of ability to apply their knowledge, and can continuously develop themselves in line with technological developments. Practical application also holds an important place in the Furniture and Decoration department. Workshop studies and projects provide students with the opportunity to bring their design ideas to life and to work on real-world projects. Through internship practice, students are expected to gain professional experience. Prospective technicians are required to successfully complete, within their four-semester education, the largely practice-based courses in the program, including Basic Furniture Design, Wood Material Technology, Basic Operations in Furniture Production, Wood Processing Techniques, Wooden Surface Decoration, Computer-Aided Design and Solid Furniture Design.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can work as technicians in public institutions and private sector organizations operating in the relevant field, in production, maintenance and repair, assembly, quality and technical service units, and can also start their own businesses. They can transfer to related undergraduate programmes through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
