From Education to Experience” Event Held During Tourism Week

The “From Education to Experience in Tourism” event, organized by Mersin Turizm Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (TURAM) as part of Tourism Week, brought together academia and the tourism industry. Müberra Kaplan, General Manager of Ulu Resort Hotel, attended the program as a guest speaker.

During the event, a comprehensive presentation on the activities carried out by the center was delivered by TURAM Director Prof. Dr. Meryem Samırkaş Komşu. The presentation addressed the strategic importance of tourism education, the added value created by a qualified workforce in the sector, and current economic indicators related to tourism.

Following the presentation, a Q&A session was held in which Müberra Kaplan shared her sectoral insights and professional experiences, offering practical recommendations to students planning a career in tourism. The interactive session provided students with the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about current industry expectations and career pathways.

At the end of the event, the book titled “Sustainable Tourism Context: Cultural Heritage Values of Mersin” was presented to Müberra Kaplan by Prof. Dr. Meryem Samırkaş Komşu, while a certificate of appreciation was presented by Prof. Dr. Levent Koşan.

The event was attended by TURAM Board Member Prof. Dr. Levent Koşan, Vice Directors Dr. Anıl Kale and Research Assistant Dr. Yusuf Çağrı Türkseven, as well as members of the Working and Coordination Group: Meryem Ezgi Sakar, Beyza Aksay, and Arzu Gürgenç. The event also attracted strong interest from students of the Faculty of Tourism.

Aiming to strengthen academia-industry collaboration, the event stood out as an important platform contributing to the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical experience for students.
