Top 150 Globally, Top 15 in Türkiye: Our University Continues Its Rise in Sustainability

Our university achieved a significant milestone in the UI GreenMetric 2026 Sustainable Universities Ranking. In the ranking, which evaluated 2,016 universities from 110 countries worldwide, our university ranked 139th globally and 13th in Turkey.

Compared to the previous year, our university climbed 63 spots in the global ranking, rising from 202nd to 139th place; in the Turkish ranking, it moved up from 24th to 13th place, and among public universities, it rose from 18th to 10th place.

We Rank in the Top Two Among Public Universities in Three Categories

Our university also achieved strong results in category-based evaluations. In the Campus and Infrastructure category, our university ranked 18th globally, placing it among the world’s top 20 universities; it ranked 3rd in Turkey and 2nd among public universities.

In the Energy and Climate Change category, our university ranked 49th globally and 4th in Turkey; in the Water category, it ranked 49th globally and 3rd in Turkey. In both categories, it ranked second among public universities. Thus, our university secured a spot in the top two among public universities in Turkey in all three categories.

Commenting on this significant international achievement, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Erol Yaşar, expressed great pride that the steps they have taken toward building a sustainable and nature-friendly campus have been recognized on a global scale.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Erol Yaşar, said, “From the very first day we took office, we have made it one of our top priorities to establish a university model that places people and nature at its core, generates its own energy, and is environmentally conscious. Our rise of 63 places in the global GreenMetric 2026 rankings—and, in particular, our top ranking among state universities in the areas of energy, climate change, water management, and infrastructure—is the most concrete proof of how accurately and resolutely we are advancing this vision. To leave a more livable, green, and sustainable world for future generations, we will continue to expand our environment-focused projects across all of our university campuses. I would like to thank our university’s GreenMetric team—which coordinated the UI GreenMetric process and contributed to the development of sustainability initiatives—as well as all our academic and administrative staff and students for their dedicated efforts in achieving this significant success. “We will continue to work with the same determination to take our university to even greater heights in the field of sustainability, both nationally and internationally,” he said.
