Turkish Language Day Celebrated at Our University

In celebration of Turkish Language Day on September 26, , a meaningful event was organised on Monday 28 September at our University’s Prof. Dr. Uğur Oral Cultural Centre.
Organised in collaboration between the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, the Department of Turkish Language at the Rector’s Office, and the Centre for Turkish Language Teaching, Research and Practice, the programme was followed with great interest by the participants.
Language, Culture and Processes of Change
At the event, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ali Tan, Prof. Dr. Faik Kanatlı, in his presentation entitled ‘Language and Culture’, highlighted the reciprocal relationship between language and culture, discussing the importance of language in preserving cultural values and transmitting them from one generation to the next. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turgay Sebzecioğlu, in his presentation entitled ‘The State of Turkish in Turkey at the Beginning of the 20th Century’, assessed the general state of Turkish in Turkey during that period and the processes of change occurring in the language.
Technology and Teaching Turkish to Foreigners
Lecturer Dr. Özgür Öner, in his presentation entitled ‘The Use of Technology in Language Teaching’, highlighted the role of technological tools in language teaching and the opportunities these tools offer for teaching processes. Lecturer Tolga Arslan, in his presentation entitled “A Routine Perspective on the Practice and Research in Teaching Turkish to Foreigners”, examined the practice and research in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners from various angles.
The event, which emphasised the historical, cultural and scientific importance of the Turkish language, concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers by Prof. Dr. Mutlu Nisa Ünaldı Coral, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Prof. Dr. Hasan Yürek, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, followed by a group photograph.
