About the Department

The Department of Geological Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering provides comprehensive education in the study of Earth materials, processes, and structures, and their application to engineering practice. Given Turkey's active tectonic structure and rich mineral resources, geological engineering is a strategically important discipline. The program offers in-depth training in engineering geology, soil mechanics, hydrogeology, seismology, and mining geology alongside fundamental earth science courses. Fieldwork and laboratory applications are integral parts of the curriculum. Students develop skills in analyzing geological data using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing technologies. The program provides academic flexibility through the Erasmus exchange program, double major, and minor options.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Geological Engineering program find employment in ground investigation in the construction sector, exploration and production in mining companies, geothermal and petroleum research in the energy sector, and disaster management and environmental assessment in public institutions. Graduate education also provides opportunities for an academic career.
