Mersin University Faculty of Maritime was established with the Council of Ministers Decision published in the Official Gazette dated October 7, 2012 and numbered 28434. The purpose of the faculty's establishment is to become a center of attraction in the field of maritime education in its region by using the location and facilities of the city of Mersin and Mersin University, and to train qualified and fully equipped officer-class seafarers who have made maritime a way of life and know foreign languages, as well as expert personnel for maritime enterprises.

Within the framework of the faculty's structuring, the "Faculty Board" and "Administrative Board" were established following the appointment of the Acting Dean by the Council of Higher Education. The proposal of the Mersin University Rectorate regarding the opening of departments within the Faculty of Maritime was examined at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated November 20, 2013, and the opening of the following departments was deemed appropriate in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 as amended by Law No. 2880:

- Department of Marine Engineering,

- Department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering,

- Department of Maritime Business Management,

- Department of Basic Sciences,

Our Faculty's Department of Maritime Business Management completed its sufficient academic staff and began admitting students in the 2016-2017 academic year, while the Department of Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering began admitting students as of the 2025-2026 academic year. The Department of Marine Engineering is planned to admit students in the short and medium term after completing infrastructure and academic staff structuring within the framework of the relevant regulations and provisions of the Higher Education Council and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's "Seafarers Education and Examination Directive." Undergraduate student admission is not planned for the Department of Basic Sciences.

Our Faculty continues its educational activities in its new and modern building located on the Mersin University ?iftlikk?y Campus, whose construction process was completed and put into operation as of the 2024-2025 academic year.
