DEHAB (Experimental Animals Research Unit)

EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS RESEARCH UNIT (DEHAB)

The Experimental Animals Research Unit is located within the Mersin University Faculty of Medicine. Located on the Yenişehir campus, the unit is open to all researchers, both internal and external, who meet the necessary requirements.

The Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Experimental Animals Research Unit, which received a work permit for the production, supply, and use of mice, rats, and rabbits in 2012 (Validity: 2022), breeds and cares for Wistar Albino rats, Balb/c Albino mice, and C57BL/6 mice. Rabbit care is also provided by the researcher, if provided by the researcher. Breeding is prohibited without meeting the application requirements, primarily to protect the welfare of experimental animals and to reduce laboratory costs such as feed and labor.

PURPOSE

DEHAB conducts studies on mice, rats, and rabbits, which have received approval from the Mersin University Animal Experimentation Local Ethics Committee (MEÜHADYEK), and establishes inbred and outbred stocks of the studied animal species.

One of the unit's objectives is to provide training courses to enhance the surgical skills of surgical residents and medical students through "Experimental Animal Use Certificate" courses.

DEHAB operates under the auspices of the Faculty of Medicine Dean's Office.
