Property Protection and Security Department Occupational Health and Safety (Distance Education) Associate Degree Program began education with a quota of 100 students within our Vocational School in the 2016-2017 academic year, according to YÖK Decision No. 75850160-104.01.02.04-27835, dated May 11, 2016. 

The program, which started education in the 2016-2017 Academic Year within Mersin University Mersin Vocational School; Property Protection and Security Department Occupational Health and Safety (Distance Education) Associate Degree Program; considering the need for educated and qualified individuals in this field, as a result of the mandatory employment of occupational health and safety personnel (occupational safety experts, workplace physicians, and other health personnel) in all workplaces without distinction between public and private sectors under Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, which entered into force upon publication in the Official Gazette No. 283391 dated June 30, 2012, and the legislative changes and ongoing developments made by our Ministry of Labor and Social Security in the field of occupational health and safety in recent years,

1. Who can follow legal regulations and technological developments related to occupational accidents and diseases that may be encountered in working life,

2. Who can make necessary arrangements based on changing regulations in the work area, and prepare risk assessments and emergency action plans,

3. Who have sufficient knowledge and skills in teamwork and effective communication,

4. Who act in accordance with professional ethical rules,

5. aims to train individuals with developed sense of responsibility and analytical thinking skills.

Studies are being conducted worldwide and in our country to reduce occupational accidents and diseases. In parallel with technological developments, there is a need for new legal regulations and qualified vocational staff who have completed their education in this field. This need further increases the importance given to the field of occupational health and safety.

Practices to be carried out in the field of occupational health and safety in our country must be implemented through professionals and trained vocational staff. Thus, it is believed that the targeted success, continuity, and permanence in the field of occupational health and safety can be achieved.

The delivery of the program through distance education provides the following advantages for individuals who wish to be educated in this field but cannot continue formal education due to various reasons: 

1. Individuals working in the public sector who wish to serve as occupational safety experts in their institution(s),

2. Individuals who wish to obtain a diploma while actively working,

3. Public servants who wish to advance their seniority,

4. Those who think they are too late for formal and dual education at university, 

5. Students who wish to hold two diplomas while completing their university education,

6. Students who wish to benefit from the exam-free transition right and enter the workforce after high school,

7. Individuals who have completed university education and wish to pursue university education again,

8. Individuals in correctional facilities,                  

9. Mothers and fathers who wish to set an example for their children,

10. Individuals with physical disabilities. 

Distance Education;  provides the opportunity to continue education at the desired quality with rich, advanced, and interactive tools 24/7 anywhere and everywhere with internet access, regardless of time and place, without the additional expenses of transportation, accommodation, housing, nutrition, and similar costs required in formal education.
