Medical Documentation and Secretarial
The Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program, part of Mersin University's School of Health Services, is a two-year associate degree program that aims to provide professional knowledge and skills in areas such as organizing, archiving, and coding patient records in healthcare institutions, and the effective use of health information systems. Students receive both theoretical and practical training in topics such as health terminology, medical documentation techniques, health information management systems, patient record and archive management, medical correspondence, and secretarial practices. Graduates of the program are employed as "Medical Secretaries" in public and private hospitals, family health centers, outpatient clinics, and various healthcare institutions.
Our mission is to train responsible and competent healthcare professionals who can organize medical records in accordance with scientific and ethical standards, effectively use health information systems, and adhere to patient privacy and professional ethical values, all with the aim of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare services. Our vision is to train qualified medical secretaries who are respected nationally and internationally, are up-to-date on technological advancements, and are equipped with innovative training methods. This program is a pioneering and exemplary program in the field of health information management.
Our goal is to ensure the creation of accurate, reliable, and organized medical records in healthcare institutions, contribute to the continuity of healthcare services, and train well-equipped Medical Secretaries to support patient care processes through effective information management. Our Main Objectives:
- To provide the knowledge and skills to ensure accurate, reliable, and rapid preparation of medical records and documents.
- To provide competence in health information systems, archive and patient file management, and ICD coding and reporting.
- To cultivate graduates who are committed to scientific and technological developments and open to continuous learning.
- To cultivate individuals who adhere to professional ethical values, possess strong communication skills, are team-oriented, and possess a strong sense of responsibility.
- To cultivate professionals equipped to work in the healthcare sector at national and international levels.
