Program Teaching Aims and Objectives
Program Objective: “The Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage medical documentation, patient records, and health information management processes in public and private healthcare institutions. Graduates work as “Medical Secretaries” in these institutions.”
Program Goals:
1. To teach students the fundamental knowledge and principles of medical documentation and health information systems.
2. To equip students with the skills to conduct patient admission and registration processes, hospital information systems (HIS), and reporting applications in accordance with legislation, and to interpret basic data.
3. To instill in students an understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality, the protection of personal health data, and professional ethical principles.
4. To equip students with the skills to manage effective communication, correspondence, and coordination processes in healthcare institutions.
5. To raise students' professional awareness in line with quality standards, professional responsibilities, and technological developments.
*In line with Mersin University's 2023-2027 Strategic Goals, and taking into account the opinions of internal and external stakeholders, the aims and objectives of the Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program were updated with the Board of Directors' Decision No. 5/16 dated 26/01/2026.
