About the Department
The Operating Room Services Program, established in the 2004-2005 academic year within the Mersin University School of Health Services, offers two-year associate degree-level vocational training. The program aims to train qualified auxiliary healthcare personnel who can ensure the preparation, organization, and safe use of all surgical instruments and materials used in operating rooms; who can directly participate in surgical teams during surgery; who can assist surgeons; and who are required to perform these duties.
Our mission is to train qualified healthcare professionals who are knowledgeable about surgical technologies, committed to ethical values, possess high professional knowledge and skills, and prioritize patient safety and sterilization principles. Our vision is to be a nationally recognized program in surgical healthcare, a pioneer in practical training, and an exemplary training program that trains the well-equipped and innovative operating room technicians needed by the healthcare industry.
Our primary objectives are as follows:
· To equip students with the skills to identify, prepare, and effectively use all surgical instruments and materials used in operating rooms.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can work as health technicians in public and private hospitals, oral and dental health centres, medical laboratories, imaging centres and related health institutions. They can transfer to related undergraduate programmes through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
