Double Major and Minor Programs
Double Major
The conditions regarding the double major program in our department have been determined in accordance with the Mersin University Double Major and Minor Program Directive, issued as an annex to the Senate decision dated 25.10.2023, No. 2023/129.
Minor
The conditions regarding the minor program in our department have also been determined in accordance with the same directive.
A student may apply for minor programs approved by the University Senate no earlier than the beginning of the third semester in the main undergraduate program, no later than the beginning of the sixth semester for four-year programs, the seventh semester for five-year programs, and the ninth semester for six-year programs.
(Amended: SK-25/10/2023-2023/129) To be eligible for a minor program, the student must have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum of the main undergraduate program up to that semester and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 65 out of 100 in the main program.
A student may submit ranked preferences for more than one minor program simultaneously; however, they may only enroll in one minor program. A student admitted to a program based on one preference cannot claim rights regarding other preferences.
For minor diploma programs that require an aptitude test, passing the aptitude test is also required for admission. The conditions are determined by the relevant subunit and approved by the department administrative board.
If applying to a program offered partially or entirely in a foreign language, the student must meet the language proficiency requirements according to the relevant provisions of the Principles of Foreign Language Education and Instruction in a Foreign Language, approved by the Mersin University Senate.
Applications for minor programs must be submitted to the relevant unit offering the minor, along with the required documents, within the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Students wishing to pursue a minor in the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations or another academic program must apply to the faculty secretariats and the relevant department chairs, following the announced application and registration dates on the university website, in accordance with the academic calendar.
This process is carried out in coordination between the Student Affairs Department and the relevant department chair. Documents of students meeting the application criteria are forwarded to the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, and after verification by the relevant faculty member, information is sent to the Dean’s Office and the Student Affairs Department. After all procedures are completed, the Faculty Administrative Board evaluates the acceptance or rejection of applicants, and the final results are communicated to the students.
Students wishing to pursue a minor in the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations or in another academic program in addition to their main major are evaluated in accordance with Article 10, Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Mersin University Associate and Undergraduate Education, Training and Examination Regulation, and Articles 5–12 of the Directive on Transfers Between Programs and Double Major and Minor Undergraduate Education Programs.
Students applying for a minor in the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations must submit the relevant double major and minor application form, together with their transcript, to the Dean’s Office and Department Chair. Academic records, transcripts, and course schedules of applicants are carefully reviewed, and course registration is completed provided there is no conflict with courses in the main major. If no obstacles are identified during the application process, the student can begin their studies in the double major program.
To improve current practices, our department has established a protocol with the Department of Finance regarding minors. Under this protocol, Dr. Nurcan TEMİZ has been appointed as the Bologna Coordinator for minors on behalf of the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations.
