Program Educational Objectives
1. To teach students the fundamental concepts, theories, historical development and methods of sociology; to equip them with the ability to analyze social phenomena from a scientific, theoretical and methodological perspective.
2. To train sociologists who can collect and analyze data using qualitative and quantitative research methods; and who can develop scientific reports and policy recommendations for social problems using this data.
3. To provide an intellectual foundation that enables students to establish connections with other fields of social sciences, think interdisciplinarily, and distinguish between different systems of thought and scientific knowledge.
4. To train sociologists who can analyze issues such as the functioning and change of society, social problems, social inequalities, judicial issues and cultural diversity; and who act with awareness of scientific ethics and social responsibility.
5. To train sociologists who can follow academic studies at national and international levels; and who can effectively use their sociological knowledge and skills in the public sector, private sector and civil society.
Program Outcomes
1. Knows sociological fundamental concepts, theories and intellectual traditions (classical/contemporary, domestic/foreign).
2. Analyzes social structure and functioning; establishes relationships between phenomena.
3. Recognizes sociology traditions in Turkey and developments specific to Turkish society.
4. Knows and uses sociological methodology, quantitative/qualitative techniques and data analysis methods.
5. Designs and implements scientific research, conducts analysis utilizing computer technologies.
6. Makes observations on social problems, thinks critically and develops solution proposals.
7. Transforms research findings into scientific reports, develops social projects.
8. Establishes interdisciplinary connections; relates sociology with other social science fields.
9. Distinguishes between scientific knowledge and values such as ideology/belief.
10. Communicates in written, oral, and visual forms; knows and uses at least one foreign language.
11. Is inclined toward group work, possesses collaborative learning skills.
12. Possesses high humanistic values and lifelong learning awareness in line with ethics, social responsibility, and Ataturk's Principles and Reforms.
