DEPARTMENT OF TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature, one of the first departments established at our University and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was founded in 1993, began admitting students in the 1993-1994 academic year, and graduated its first class in 1997. In addition to the undergraduate program, a master's program has been offered since the 1993-1994 academic year, and a doctoral program since the 2019-2020 academic year. The Department of Turkish Language and Literature was part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences between 1993 and 2022. After the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was closed in 2022 and restructured into two faculties named the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, it became a department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Our department consists of the following divisions: Turkish Language and Literature, Old Turkic Language, Old Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature, New Turkish Language, and New Turkish Literature. Each division has faculty members with doctoral-level qualifications in their respective fields. The number of faculty members in our department is 13, comprising 4 professors, 5 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 1 lecturer with a doctorate, and 2 research assistants.
The undergraduate program, which has a duration of 4 years (8 semesters), uses a letter grading system, with a passing grade of 60 and above. Students must complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits within the 4-year program to graduate. Since 1997, our Department has produced 1,158 graduates under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, 2 under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, 120 from the Master's Program, and 3 from the Doctoral Program under the Graduate School of Social Sciences.

The quota allocated to our Department by YOK has been completely filled in the last three years. Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, the department quota has been reduced by YOK from 70 to 30. As can be seen in the table below, the minimum and maximum placement scores of students enrolled in the department have been steadily increasing.
