Highlights of Our Museum

The Marine Life Museum boasts a vast collection of fish species, marine mammals, sea turtles, and various invertebrates distributed in the Eastern Mediterranean. This collection contributes to the scientific community by being featured in national and international scientific publications with catalog numbers. Our museum has been visited not only by schools from Mersin but also by schools from various European countries such as Romania and Poland.

In the museum's garden, many individual marine mammals and sea turtles are buried underground, awaiting display. The species and their numbers are given below:

Fin Whale (
Balaenoptera physalus

Bottlenose Dolphin (
Tursiops truncatus

Striped Dolphin (
Stenella coeruleoalba

Grey Dolphin (
Grampus griseus
): 1
Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta): 6
Green Sea Turtle (

The excavation of these species from underground and their display as museum material will enrich our museum inventory and fill an important gap in our city's marine culture.

Education and Social Contribution

Our museum is designed as an educational material resource for students at the primary, secondary, and high school levels, especially Mersin University students. The exhibited species will be an important learning tool for anyone wishing to learn about marine life.

Considering lifelong learning, it is of great importance to inform individuals living in a coastal city like Mersin about the marine ecosystem and to increase the contribution of marine culture to the city's culture. Exhibiting these visual materials in our museum will be a meaningful step both scientifically and socially.

Mersin University Marine Life Museum plays a pioneering role in disseminating marine culture and aims to pass on the natural riches of our city to future generations. (Content is being prepared)
