Unit Introduction (Brief History)

History

A Distance Education Unit was established within Mersin University's Mersin Vocational School in 2002. Internet-supported instruction began in the 2002-2003 academic year with the Industrial Electronics (Electronic Technology) program. In 2003, the Distance Education Unit expanded to include Computer Technologies and Programming (Computer Programming), Electronic Communications (Electronic Communication Technology), and Industrial Automation (Control and Automation Technology). On October 11, 2006, it became a new vocational school, Mersin University Mersin Vocational School (Distance Education).

The number of programs increased to nine with the addition of Business Administration and Pharmacy Services programs in 2009, Healthcare Institutions Management and Medical Promotion and Marketing in 2010, and Public Relations and Promotion associate degree programs in 2011. In the 2012-2013 academic year, programs in Forestry, Cosmetic Technology, and Real Estate and Property Management were launched. In the 2016-2017 academic year, the number of programs increased to thirteen with the opening of the Property Protection and Security Department and the Occupational Health and Safety program within it.
